VDMA India Day – Using Opportunities despite the Crisis

On 27 March 2009 the VDMA informed interested companies in Frankfurt on the sales opportunities for the glass industry on the Asian sub-continent at the “Country Day – India’s Glass Technology”. Speakers also included representatives from Messe Düsseldorf GmbH who reported on the Indian market as well as marketing opportunities via trade fairs like GLASSPEX India.

Despite the current cooling of the economic climate in India the Asian sub-continent remains an interesting market or the glass industry long term. According to data from the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) the building sector, for instance, will grow an average of 12% per year until 2012. Furthermore, not only will the population grow but general living standards will also rise. These developments benefit the glass industry, especially in the field of high-quality special glass – for instance for the automotive industry, as a construction material and as display glass or packaging material for the pharmaceutical and food industries.

The India Day programme included information on general market entry as well as practical tips for business with Indian partners. Participants also contributed with their own experiences with business in India.
